YWIB-Metro New York: Weill Cornell Medicine Mentorship Program
Young Women In Bio Metro New York is thrilled to announce that applications are open for the ninth highly popular Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Mentorship program. This program is for young women who are high school students in New York City and seriously interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
WHAT: The program runs from May 2024 through February 2025. During the program, students attend at least three after-school events organized by WCM medical school students. Participants can expect to meet with WCM student mentors and some WCM faculty, learn about different medical specialties, and participate in simulated classroom activities.
WHEN: Three 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. programs, with dates TBD. Applicants must be available to attend all three meetings in person in NYC. (May, Oct/Nov, and early Feb 2025)
WHERE: Weill Cornell Medicine campus: 1300 York Ave, NYC (corner is East 68th Street)
WHO: We can accept up to 30 high school girls (current seniors are NOT eligible).

Applicants will be notified of their status the first week of May. Girls currently in Grades 9–11 are encouraged to apply, although we give a slight weight to rising 10th & 11th graders. The recruitment process is straightforward and designed to attract students who are seriously interested in medical careers. To this end, we are seeking students who demonstrate the following:
Applicants should answer the four questions below in essay format and include a personal statement explaining what motivates them most. They should submit their essays in one document (Microsoft Word format) to newyorkywib@womeninbio.org., Please write compelling essays (absolute maximum of 500 words per essay). In addition, a teacher or mentor recommendation, submitted separately, is strongly encouraged but NOT required. Ask the teacher or mentor to email the recommendation (including your name, grade, and school) to newyorkywib@womeninbio.org.
