YWIB-Metro New York: Weill Cornell Medicine Mentorship Program
Young Women In Bio Metro New York is thrilled to announce that applications are open for the highly popular Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Mentorship program. This the tenth year for the program which is designed for young women who are high school students in New York City and seriously interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
During the program, students will participate in three events (one virtual and two in-person) organized by Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) first-year medical school students. Participants can expect to meet with WCM student mentors, as well as some WCM faculty, learn about different medical specialties, and participate in a simulated classroom activity. The program will run from May through December 2025.
Program Overview:
1. Virtual Event: A Day in The Life of a First-Year Medical Student
2. Physician Panel & Campus Tour (In-Person Event)
3. Problem-Based Learning Session (In-Person Event)
Applicants please note:
Girls currently in Grades 10-11 (2024-2025 academic year) are encouraged to apply and who demonstrated the following:
Applicants should respond to the following three questions.
1. Describe why you are interested in a career in medicine.
2. What do you hope to gain from this program?
3. Please describe a role model or person in your life who has had a significant impact on you. In addition, a teacher or guidance counselor recommendation, submitted separately, is strongly encouraged but not required. A letter of recommendation should be emailed to newyorkywib@womeninbio.org.
Submissions are due by April 6, 2025, with no exceptions. Up to 20 participants will be selected. Decisions will be communicated by mid-April.
