WIB-Pittsburgh, EWIB-Pittsburgh |
After a successful launch in April 2024, the WIB-Pittsburgh Executive Women In Bio (EWIB) Committee partnered with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS) for their second event. Mastering Executive Presence was a panel-style event with multiple executive leaders from TFS sharing their career journeys and building and sustaining executive presence. These leaders shared their experiences within a matrix organization like TFS and the life sciences industry. With TFS investing in the development of their leaders by offering a multitude of leadership training opportunities and programs, as well as initiatives like Women’s ERG, these leaders brought a plethora of learnings and experiences to share with their peers and rising executives alike.
The conversation was rich with discussions around what executive presence meant to these leaders and specific strategies they have found most effective in developing and maintaining their executive presence. Other questions delved into balancing being authentic to yourself while meeting expectations of executive presence. There was a vast consensus around staying your authentic self through all stages of your career, especially as you grew into an executive. That could mean either being the person in the room who spoke the most or only speaking when they had something to contribute. A multitude of personas of executive presence were discussed, including active listening, pushing your teams internally but being their most fierce advocate externally, finding individual mentors who could advise with many aspects of your growth, or seeking mentorship towards particular aspects of your personality and growth from a group of leaders and peers.
The P.O.W.E.R. Award was presented to Lisa Witte, SVP and President of Customer Channels at TFS, recognizing her significant contributions to WIB-Pittsburgh and the regional life sciences ecosystem. After the panel discussion, TFS hosted a fantastic networking reception in which EWIB members got to know the members from TFS and form lasting connections.
