On February 12, YWIB-Philadelphia Metro volunteered at STEAM Night at John Moffett Elementary School, an evening designed to spark students’ curiosity in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Over 100 students from kindergarten through 5th grade participated. YWIB volunteers set up a hands-on activity station with cardboard rolls, mirrored sheets, cardstock, flexible straws, markers, and crayons, working together to prep materials by cutting mirrors and cardstock pieces. As students arrived, they were guided through the process of designing and assembling their own kaleidoscopes—taping mirrored triangles, inserting them into rolls, decorating viewing sheets, and completing the final assembly. By the end of the night, more than 50 kaleidoscopes had been created, capping off a fun, collaborative celebration of STEAM learning.
