On Saturday, January 10, Young Women In Bio Philadelphia Metro, in partnership with Fox Chase Cancer Center, hosted TRIP Preview, an interactive event designed to provide high school students with hands-on experience conducting a scientific experiment using fruit flies as a model organism. During the event, participants investigated the effects of licorice on wound healing. By assessing mobility and activity as indicators of overall health, students gained firsthand experience with experimental design, data interpretation, and the importance of model systems in biomedical research. TRIP Preview offered students the opportunity to explore what it means to conduct research, connect with scientists, and receive encouragement and support as they develop their interest in biomedical research.
