YWIB-Greater Boston: Spring Into STEM – Women in STEM Career Panel, March 13, 2023

Young Women In Bio (YWIB) Greater Boston held its first event since restarting this chapter initiative!

On March 13, 2023, Young Women In Bio (YWIB) Greater Boston held its first event since restarting this chapter initiative! The event was a virtual career panel featuring three women in biotechnology, who shared their backgrounds, stories of successful mentors, struggles as women in traditionally male-dominated fields, and any other steps or missteps along the way. Our three panelists were Cecilia Sun, the executive director of BD & Strategy, Dr. Yvonne Nyavor, a principal scientist in microbiology, and Priya Subramanian, a director of IT. The panel was moderated by Nina Shah, a master’s student at Tufts School of Medicine.

After the panel, students had the opportunity for a Q&A. The students were well-engaged in both the panel and the Q&A and had great feedback to share about the event. For future panels, we hope to continue showing students that most people don’t have a straight path to success and that it’s normal to make mistakes and take steps back along the way to figure out your future profession. We also hope to continue expanding our chapter presence into more schools, non-profits, and other organizations that could benefit from our events. If you know somebody who would benefit from a recording of the event, please email bostonywib@womeninbio.org for a copy.
