On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, we hosted an engaging virtual talk with Dr. Florence (Flo) Doo, MD, Director of Innovation at the University of Maryland Medical Intelligent Imaging (UM2ii) Center and Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, showcased her multifaceted expertise in radiology, artificial intelligence (AI)/informatics, and business/entrepreneurship. Dr. Doo’s impressive career trajectory included residences at Mt Sinai West and dual fellowships in body imaging at Standford University and Informatics through the American College of Radiology (ACR), which highlights her commitment to excellence in research and academia.
Dr. Doo’s presentation delved into the transformative potential of AI in healthcare, emphasizing its role in clinical decision-making, research and innovation. She elucidated the distinction between traditional AI and generative AI, providing insights into their applications and evolution. Dr. Doo’s discussion encompassed landmark developments in AI, from the inception of long short-term memory networks to the emergence of transformative models like GPT and DALL-E. There was also mention of AI and concerns in the regulatory landscape. As AI is changing so quickly, it is hard to narrow down the regulatory concerns.

Furthermore, Dr. Doo underscored the importance of effective prompting in AI interactions, sharing a resource on prompting guides aimed at enhancing AI performance and output. The introduction provided a comprehensive overview of prompting guides, including tips for effective utilization and illustrative examples from real-world applications. Attendees were encouraged to explore the provided link for future insights into AI. Dr. Doo’s presentation left attendees with a profound understanding of the potential of AI in healthcare, research, and the critical role of innovative approaches like prompting guides in maximizing its benefits. Her visionary leadership and expertise continue to drive advancements in the intersection of AI, radiology, and healthcare.
