YWIB-Seattle: Tabling at Summer Farmers Markets

September 26, 2025

This summer, YWIB-Seattle brought hands-on science to three local farmers' markets! The team tabled at Magnolia (Aug 30), Lake Cities (Sep 4), and Phinney Ridge (Sep 26), engaging over 100 community members, including young girls curious about science, families, and women working in STEM who were excited to learn more about Women In Bio Seattle. Our activities featured a taste perception experiment where participants discovered how food coloring can influence how we perceive flavor by sampling apple juice dyed in different colors. We also set up a microscope station, allowing visitors a closer look at plant cells, which was a hit for kids and adults! We distributed flyers and stickers throughout the events, spreading awareness of our mission to inspire and support women in the bioscience field. This outreach series was a fantastic opportunity to spark curiosity in STEM, build connections with the community, and highlight the impactful work of YWIB-Seattle. A big thank you to our YWIB volunteers Lili Bahrami, Rebecca Johnson, Shivani Jayaprakasam, Ami Yamamoto, Kate Kurosky, Haritha Mathsyaraja, Tarini Rapelly, and Stephanie Saw for their invaluable help with the event.
