WIB-Pittsburgh, YWIB-Pittsburgh |
YWIB-Pittsburgh recently hosted an interactive event for 11 YWIB members from local Pittsburgh schools to learn leadership skills. The evening started with a fun icebreaker bingo game to get to know each other better. Tiffany Prince, Founder and CEO of Prince Performance, then led a fantastic discussion on different leadership styles from her book Top of the Mountain Leadership, encouraging everyone to reflect on their own leadership approach. The conversation sparked great insights into what makes a strong leader, including the importance of adapting to different environments.
Tiffany also shared some game-changing advice on using your voice effectively—pointing out how filler words can make people take you less seriously—and the impact of a strong and confident handshake. With support from YWIB Pittsburgh committee members and co-Chairs Abigail Matela, Joie Marhefka, and Edwina Kinchington, attendees practiced networking skills and handshakes. The event focused on helping young women develop the key skills they need to thrive in STEM fields, especially in male-dominated spaces.
One of the most exciting moments was seeing attendees from different schools connect and have meaningful conversations. Many walked away with a fresh perspective on how voice, dress, and handshake can shape first impressions. Looking ahead, YWIB-Pittsburgh is planning follow-up events on topics like stepping outside your comfort zone and finding a job after college—stay tuned!
