YWIB–Philadelphia Metro recently participated in the John Moffet Elementary School Science Fair in South Kensington, Philadelphia, where students in kindergarten through fifth grade proudly presented their science fair posters. The projects showcased a wide range of curiosity and creativity, with many exploring topics like how the heart works and hands-on experiments such as slime-making. Students were excited to share their projects with STEM professionals and to connect with scientists and engineers working in the field. Awards were presented to top projects based on judges’ feedback, further recognizing their efforts. WIB volunteers engaged directly with students as they presented their work, offering encouragement and thoughtful feedback. Two volunteers supported the event by serving as judges, and one was even interviewed by the school’s podcast club. WIB also contributed a K’NEX set as a raffle prize for participants.
The judges were especially impressed by the students’ preparation and enthusiasm. Overall, the interaction between STEM professionals and students created a meaningful experience that not only celebrated their hard work but also helped build confidence and inspire future interest in STEM.
