WIB-San Francisco Bay Area News |
The WIB San Francisco Bay Area Chapter had a fantastic turnout at our first YWIB Ambassador event of 2023! This panel discussion was facilitated by Leila Haile, a high school sophomore and YWIB Ambassador. This event was the culmination of her YWIB project, and her goal was to raise awareness of career journeys in STEM and encourage girls both locally and nationally to pursue their passion for STEM.
The panel showcased women leaders in the life sciences industry with backgrounds in medical affairs, patent law, and pharmacology. Leila's discussion focused on the personal experiences of these women of color, sharing insights into their journeys of overcoming challenges, bias in the workplace, and fear and doubt in a field made up primarily of men. The discussion also covered topics including the importance of mentorship, embracing ambiguity, and approaching failure as an opportunity to continue learning and growing. Attendees learned that there is no single path to a career in STEM.
