YWIB-RTP, WIB-RTP

This is the second year for YWIB-RTP at Apex EarthFest. This year's ambassadors and an alumni ambassador hosted an engaging and interactive booth filled with activities and conversations that inspired young minds about sustainability and STEM. Apex EarthFest is a fun and informative festival for the local community to celebrate our planet and offer opportunities to learn about taking care of it. YWIB presented the following two topics with corresponding activities under the overall theme “Our Healthy Planet – Beneficial Bacteria and Renewable Energy."

  • Our 2024-2025 ambassadors, Simran Gulati and Amruta Isaac, discussed how bacteria can help the environment. They prepared an informative poster, coloring sheets, and interactive models for their capstone project.
  • Ruhani Singh (YWIB-RTP alumni ambassador from 2023-2024) presented a renewable energy showcase that included solar-powered car racing, a hands-on wind turbine demonstration, and coloring sheets. Ruhani started YWIB-RTP's participation at Apex EarthFest in 2024 for her capstone project with Allison Gallucci as her mentor, and was instrumental in getting us the booth again this year. We find it a great avenue to continue in the future.

The YWIB-RTP leadership team (Co-Chair Wanda Proctor, Co-Vice Chair Amira Aayad, and Co-Vice Chair & Ambassador Liaison Dilmeet Singh) provided help with setup, disseminated WIB information to visitors, and provided oversight for this YWIB event.

We were delighted to have additional family members of the YWIB-RTP leadership as volunteers in our team to provide help with the setup and take-down of the booth. Thanks to Wanda’s daughters Harmoni, Kymani, and Taylor, Amira’s daughter Salma Hassanein (senior in MC-UNCG), Dilmeet's daughter Ruhani (senior in AFHS), and husband Sunny. It was an amazing experience, and we all deeply appreciated being part of such a meaningful event.
