On March 25, WIB–Metro New York hosted a timely panel on how social media is shaping women’s health, bringing together leaders across social media, medicine, epidemiology, and communications. The discussion focused on how platforms like Reddit, TikTok, and Instagram are changing the way women navigate their care and make medical decisions—often before they even step into a doctor’s office. Panelists noted that while social media can be a powerful, accessible source of health information, it’s important to put that information in context and bring it into conversations with providers to determine what’s right for each individual. They also highlighted how quickly misinformation can spread—and how difficult it can be to correct—making it essential to build trust between patients and providers early on. One message came through clearly: advocate for yourself—you have the ability and agency to make informed decisions and play an active role in your health journey.
Thank you to our speakers, Stacey Kratz (Social Media Manager at Weill Cornell Medicine), Aniela Sosnowski (Obstetrician-Gynecologist at Northwell Health), Marisa Donnelly (Head of Epidemiology at Biobat Analytics and contributor to YourLocalEpidemiology newsletter, and Brittany Tressler (Senior Vice President at Vault Communications), and to moderator Apoorva Chaloori (Manager, IR & Corporate Communications at Kura Oncology, Inc) for leading such an engaging conversation.Thank you to our event host, Tower Capital Group for providing the beautiful venue.
