On May 1, 2024, the Center City Peer Group met at Becks for a special event. Guest speaker Nora Barry gave a talk on crafting a personal narrative using storytelling. She led the group in an exercise to use an example from life based on a greatest personal achievement. Using a narrative arc method, she had the group craft a compelling story to showcase a journey to engage an audience. When crafting a personal narrative, start with these questions: what barriers did I encounter, what skills did I use, and what was the impact? After that, craft a story using a narrative arc, which is more engaging than a simple facts-driven communication method.
Three people workshopped their narrative with the group and left with a personal story highlighting one of their most significant achievements. The group collaborated during the exercise to help and uplift each other. Going forward, the peer group will meet monthly on the last Tuesday of the month to connect and support each other in jobs and careers. Join us on May 30 for the next meeting.
