YWIB-Seattle, WIB-Seattle |
This July, YWIB-Seattle partnered with Rainier Valley Leadership Academy (RVLA) to host a four-week mentorship and STEM enrichment program for over 50 girls ranging from elementary to high school. During the first two weeks, we organized career panels featuring college students pursuing STEM and healthcare fields, as well as professional scientists who shared their career paths, challenges, and passions. The following two weeks focused on immersive, hands-on science activities. The girls built robotic fans, learned about plasma, explored genetics through super-tasting strips, practiced using microscopes, and participated in critical health and safety training, including Stop the Bleed and hands-only CPR.
Each session sparked curiosity, encouraged questions, and created space for authentic connections between mentors and students. The students' energy, engagement, and creativity were inspiring, and we’re proud to have helped build confidence and excitement around science and leadership.
