WIB-San Francisco Bay Area: Unraveling the Mysteries of Bleeding, Coagulation, & Platelet Disorders

January 23, 2024

On January 23, WIB-San Francisco Bay Area hosted an informative and enlightening event that shined a spotlight on the unique challenges and advancements in rare blood disorders. The panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Yamini Bynagari, engaged a critical discussion delving into various diseases like Hemophilia, Von Willebrand’s, and Immune Thrombocytopenia, addressing the complexities in diagnosis due to factors like genetic abnormalities and disease severity.

Patient advocates Leslie Ferber and Lynne Kinst provided insights into the psychological impact and evolving patient journey, while Amy Tollner discussed the transformation from a diagnostics perspective. Dr. Kathleen Meyer offered valuable perspectives on the evolution of precision medicine solutions, their regulation, and efficacy and safety implications. The panel also covered how these disorders specifically affect women's health, including pregnancies and menses. The event concluded with a focus on unmet needs, barriers to treatment, and resources for patient education, like http://Betteryouknow.org.

A heartfelt thanks to Machaon Diagnostics for hosting such an informative and important discussion and to Dr. Violet Votin and Lee Fawkes for assisting Women In Bio in making this event successful.
