WIB-Metro New York: Author Interview – Dr. Elizabeth Comen Presents "All in Her Head"

On May 2, 2024, WIB-Metro New York hosted Dr Elizabeth Comen to discuss her book, All in Her Head: The Truth and Lies Early Medicine Taught Us About Women's Bodies and Why It Matters Today. The event brought women together for an interactive discussion with Dr. Comen to learn how to advocate for themselves in healthcare and beyond. 

The event began with a Q&A session between author Dr. Elizabeth Comen and our moderator, Dr. Lucia Regales, centered around Elizabeth's book. One of the book's essential messages is that women not only need to advocate for themselves in the healthcare system but also for their loved ones. The healthcare system can be lonely, and we can support one another in many ways, from making appointments together to simply encouraging friends to make the appointment they're dreading. As the interview with Dr. Comen drew to a close, the Q&A organically opened, and audience members shared their own stories, asking for thoughts and advice on various concerns. It was moving to see so many women feel comfortable and empowered to share their own experiences in the healthcare system. There was genuine camaraderie in the room and, hopefully, a recognition that it's always beneficial to tap into it. It is a ubiquitous feeling to be intimidated in a healthcare setting, but we can make it better simply by supporting each other. Sometimes, it's easier to advocate for a friend than advocate for yourself, so bring a friend to tough appointments! The event closed with casual networking and refreshments.
