MAPS-Greater Montreal: Strengthening Inclusion and Empowerment in Uncertain Times

On July 24, our Montreal MAPS community gathered virtually with Marie-Evelyne François, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at L’Oréal Canada and a true trailblazer in DEI. With about 16 participants, the event felt intimate and engaging—everyone felt comfortable opening up and sharing their thoughts and concerns. Seeing how the safe space created by Marie-Evelyne and our MAPS team encouraged such honest and meaningful conversation was inspiring.

Here are just a few takeaways:

• Don’t be afraid to speak up and build a network of allies with your back.
• Map your network. Identify those who can support your growth. Mentors often come from unexpected places.
• Keep learning and upskilling. Growth takes time, and meaningful change requires space to take root.
• Effective DEI isn’t decoration. It’s the foundation. Align impact with intention and go beyond acronyms and performative gestures to build DEI from the ground up. A great resource to start: ccdi.ca.
• Be the change you want to see in the world. Every small action contributes to a more inclusive future.
