YWIB-Chicago had a wonderful time at Griffin Museum of Science and Industry to celebrate Black History Month and black creativity in STEM. The event drew over 6000 participants and provided students with the opportunity to rub elbows with STEM professionals and envision transforming their creative passions into careers. YWIB-Chicago educated hundreds of students about the magical mysteries of DNA, revealing how every living organism carries its own genetic treasure map. But the real showstopper? Students got to roll up their sleeves and dive into a strawberry DNA extraction experiment. They had a berry good time crushing strawberries to crack open those DNA-filled cells! YWIB-Chicago was thrilled to share the wonders of DNA and why scientists love extracting it, and we're confident we've sparked some future scientists!
YWIB-Chicago has collaborated with Griffin MSI in the past and looks forward to future opportunities to volunteer and share our love for STEM with students.
