YWIB-Chicago: STEM & Self Care Panel and Workshop

April 12, 2025

On Saturday, April 12, YWIB-Chicago successfully hosted an event for twenty middle school students at Mark T. Skinner West Elementary School. Our dedicated YWIB Ambassadors joined forces with our marvelous YWIB-Chicago volunteers to illuminate how STEM weaves its magic into every facet of our lives. Throughout the four-hour program, five distinguished speakers shared valuable knowledge on various topics, including skin care, meditation, injury prevention, treating broken bones, and nutrition. The students actively participated in hands-on activities designed to enhance their understanding of these subjects. At each station, Dr. Nadia Sadeghi, Chris Johnson, Lauren Nemiroff, Brittany Towers, and Nisha Shiroor offered insights into their respective fields while facilitating these engaging activities. The speakers shared personal STEM experiences, highlighting that STEM careers are non-linear and that exploring unfamiliar fields can lead to discovering the right path. They emphasized that being the only person who resembles you in a space doesn’t mean you don’t belong.
