YWIB-Chicago & Project S.H.A.R.E.: Building Confidence in STEM

November 20, 2024

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Young Women In Bio Chicago (YWIB-Chicago) partnered with Project S.H.A.R.E. to host an engaging workshop at the Homan Square Community Center. This collaboration was part of Project S.H.A.R.E.’s mission to prepare youth ages 13-18 for workforce development and education planning. The workshop introduced students to foundational engineering concepts and their real-world applications. YWIB-Chicago facilitated a lively discussion about students’ career aspirations and how engineering principles can support various career paths. This dialogue set the stage for an exciting hands-on activity that challenged students to think critically and work creatively. It also encouraged teamwork with fellow STEMmers. Using marshmallows, spaghetti noodles, tape, string, and scissors, students formed teams to build the tallest possible towers capable of supporting a marshmallow at the top. The results were inspiring, as students overcame challenges together and demonstrated their potential as future engineers.

YWIB-Chicago is proud to contribute to this incredible program and is excited to see what these bright students will achieve next. A massive THANK YOU to Amira Alburei, Neha Shiroor, Chera Faulkner, and Chicago Park District for their steady commitment to providing learning opportunities for all students and building their confidence in STEM.
