The recent panel, hosted by Women In Bio RTP and the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) Southeast Chapter, explored how giving back can accelerate both personal and professional growth in the life sciences. Centered on the idea that contribution is relational—not transactional—the discussion highlighted how consistent service, community engagement, and especially sponsorship can shape long-term career trajectories, reinforcing that no one becomes poorer from giving and that reputation is built through presence and action. Panelists shared powerful stories, including Alma Montemayor, who built leadership credibility through steady involvement; Cherell Harris, who emphasized the importance of a strong professional village in advancing her career while balancing family and education; and Romaine Waller, whose first experience with true sponsorship—advocacy in rooms where she was not present—led to acceptance into a highly selective global leadership program. The conversation also clarified the distinctions between mentorship, sponsorship, and advocacy, underscoring a key takeaway that how you consistently show up often speaks louder than what you say. The evening reinforced that leadership in life sciences extends beyond technical expertise to include lifting others and investing in community, with sincere thanks extended to moderator Casey Poirier and to Joanna Bis and Triclinic Labs for their support and insights.
