We had an insightful discussion with nearly 50 attendees at our annual Women Leaders in STEM panel, moderated by Jen Bailey, Senior Communications Business Partner at CSL Seqirus. Our panelists included Kelli Collin, Senior VP of Quality at Shattuck Labs, Maria Lacourt-Cuevas, Head of Project Management Office & Operational Governance at CSL Seqirus, and Brittany Shriver, Head of Life Sciences Industry Consulting at SAS.
Each of these accomplished women faced career challenges but found ways to overcome obstacles and carve their own paths. One key topic was communication style, which significantly impacts how we are perceived. The role of mentors was also emphasized—each panelist had mentors who shaped their career journeys. It is important to choose mentors who resonate with you and challenge you with tough questions that guide you toward solutions.
Participants were encouraged to take an active role in their career development and to take the wheel, not sit in the passenger seat. Success requires curiosity and persistence—challenge the status quo and invite yourself to the table. Knowing your "why" is crucial and should guide your career choices. We hope that women leaders in STEM will be the norm in the future!
