Women In Bio Chicago hosted an informal book club discussion centered on Life on the Edge: The Coming of Age of Quantum Biology by Jim Al-Khalili and Johnjoe McFadden. Attendees explored the book’s key themes, including quantum phenomena in biological systems such as magnetoreception in birds, photosynthesis, and enzyme catalysis. The discussion extended to emerging real-world applications, focusing on the growing intersection of quantum computing, AI, and biology. Participants exchanged perspectives on how these technologies are shaping research and academia, sharing firsthand experiences with AI tools in their work and training. The conversation also highlighted upcoming opportunities in Chicago, including an event focused on AI and quantum approaches in protein therapeutics. The group looks forward to discussing Likeable Badass by Alison Fragale at the next meeting in anticipation of an upcoming author event in April.
