MAPS-Chicago, WIB-Chicago |
The WIB-Chicago Mentoring Circles Program kicked off with a virtual meeting to start the 2025 program, bringing together mentors, mentees, and chapter leaders. After welcoming everyone, the MAPS Committee was introduced, and guest speaker Laurie Wessels shared the heart behind the program. She spoke about the value of mentorship as a two-way street, where both mentors and mentees learn, grow, and gain new perspectives. One of the most memorable moments from Laurie’s talk was her question: “If you did know, what would you say?” It encouraged everyone to think more deeply and trust their inner voice.
The group walked through the program's structure—monthly mentoring circles led by mentees, a focus on trust and open communication, and a clear timeline. There was a big emphasis on showing up consistently, being vulnerable, and maintaining confidentiality so that everyone could get the most out of the experience. Mentees are encouraged to set one to three specific goals for the six-month journey and use tools like self-assessments and developmental plans to stay on track.
Hearing from past participants was a highlight—many shared how strong communication, trust, and active participation made their experiences meaningful. For the next steps in the program, mentees will share their goals, circles will exchange contact info and set their first two meetings, and everyone will align on how they want to work together. The meeting laid a strong foundation for a collaborative, growth-oriented year ahead.
