Fehmida Kapadia, PhD, Vice Chair of EWIB Committee at WIB-Capital Region, Moderator

Dr. Fehmida Kapadia is Managing Director of Fay Ventures and the Founder and CEO of Amplify MedTech. Over two decades in the medical technology sector, she has worked with more than 150 startups, guiding founders through the technical, regulatory, and commercial challenges of bringing new devices and diagnostics to market. Through Amplify MedTech, she has built an 800+ member ecosystem that connects medtech entrepreneurs with the investors, operators, and advisors they need to scale. Dr. Kapadia holds a PhD in biochemistry from The Ohio State University and a master's in biotechnology entrepreneurship from Case Western Reserve University — a combination of deep scientific training and commercial expertise that shapes how she evaluates and supports early-stage companies.
 

Christopher Nichols, PhD, General Counsel

Dr. Christopher Nichols has experience with strategic counseling for patent, trademark, and copyright matters, including preparation, prosecution, licensing, due diligence, and enforcement. Christopher counsels clients on intellectual property development, strategy, enforcement, fundraising, and licensing. He also generates and oversees strategic approaches to build global patent portfolios and create value out of IP assets. Christopher’s patent practice focuses on representation of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical companies of all sizes, including the preparation and prosecution of US and foreign patent applications; patentability, infringement, and validity due diligence analyses and opinions. He has legal and technical experience with novel proteins and recombinant DNA; iRNA technology; antibody technology; transgenic animals; gene therapy; bioinformatics; genomics; antimicrobial and cancer therapeutics; imaging and diagnostics, including immunoassays and arrays; plant cell and microbial fermentation methods and equipment; plants; vaccines; agricultural technologies, including agrichemicals, fertilizers, pest control, and crops and therapeutic biologics. In addition, Christopher has research experience in neuroscience and physiology. Christopher represents clients in the areas of trademark counseling and prosecution. He has represented clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Prior to joining MMVIP, Dr. Nichols served as General Counsel for a start-up, overseeing all of the legal matters for the company, including intellectual property, state and federal regulatory matters, and capital fundraising. Christopher worked as an NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellow and served as a biotechnology patent examiner in the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Samantha Scott, PhD, Founder and CEO of JuneBrain

Dr. Samantha Scott is the founder and CEO of JuneBrain, a start-up developing a telehealth eye-scanning system to help clinicians monitor patients with eye and brain disease. Inspired by her own experience managing a chronic neurological disorder, she combines personal insight with expertise in neuroimaging and biomedical engineering to improve patient care. Dr. Scott completed a neuroimaging postdoc at the NIH, earned her PhD in biomedical engineering from USC, and holds a BS in biomechanical engineering from Stanford.
