YWIB-San Francisco Bay Area: From Lab to Industry – A Journey Through Brightseed’s Innovation

In collaboration with Brightseed, students will engage with laboratory professionals about their work in cutting-edge lab technology and artificial intelligence, participate in a guided laboratory tour, and experience how data analysis is applied in real-world scientific settings. Brightseed is a biotechnology company that uses bioactive compounds from nature in combination with artificial intelligence technology to create novel ingredients for food, nutrition, and other health products. Their work in natural bioactive ingredients helps develop treatments for chronic diseases, helping make life better.
Snacks will be provided.
Note: This is a drop-off event (parents/guardians should not attend). Download the Brightseed Visitors Lab Safety Agreement here. To participate in the event, signed agreements must be sent to sanfranciscoywib@womeninbio.org prior to the event.

Speaker Bios
Anjali Datt, Young Women In Bio Ambassador for WIB-San Francisco Bay Area
Anjali is a high school junior at Aragon High School and College of San Mateo. She is passionate about STEM, specifically biology and medicine. Anjali is part of multiple STEM-related activities, including taking biology courses at the College of San Mateo, Aragon High’s Operation Smile Club (a global nonprofit), Young Women In Bio, Aragon High’s Biotechnology club, and also hosting labs for younger students. She is a dedicated member of the Young Women In Bio Ambassador program and is committed to giving back to her community and helping other students. In her free time, Anjali enjoys dancing, taekwondo, teaching, and reading. Recently, she completed a two-hour solo dance performance in Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance. Anjali is an aspiring physician and passionate STEM student hoping to help others enjoy STEM as she does.
Kiana Lee, Associate Scientist, Discovery R&D at Brightseed
Kiana is an Associate Scientist on the Metabolicomics team at Brightseed. Starting as a Research Associate four years ago, she has continuously improved lab processes and delivered revenue-generating programs, contributing to Brightseed's success. In addition to optimizing high-throughput lab processes, she has a passion for project management and is currently cross-training to gain more experience in that realm.
Catherine Nguyen, Associate Scientist, Discovery R&D at Brightseed
Catherine is an Associate Scientist in Brightseed's Natural Product Chemistry team. Her work focuses on discovering molecules in plants that can improve human health using both chemical and biological techniques. In her free time, she loves to mentor students to find jobs in industry after graduation and spend time with her dog Benzene.
