YWIB-Metro New York: Empowering Girls in Medicine – Diagnosis and Treatment With Case-Based Learning
If you're a high school girl interested in a career in medicine, we invite you to join us for an exciting and interactive virtual session on Case-Based Learning (CBL). CBL is a teaching approach widely used in US medical schools that integrates basic science, clinical skills, and the social determinants of health through real patient case studies. It offers a holistic, hands-on way to understand how medicine is practiced and taught.
This session is the second installment of our Healthcare Horizons – Empowering Girls in Medicine series. It will be led by two healthcare professionals from Hackensack University Medical Center who will walk through a real-life clinical scenario and explain how to apply medical knowledge in a way that simulates a real-world medical school experience.

Sarah Brink, MD
Dr. Brink is a urology resident at Hackensack University Medical Center with an interest in male fertility and sexual medicine. She is an incoming Andrology fellow at the University of British Columbia. She enjoys teaching, baking, and international travel.
Sonam Saxena, Medical Student
Sonam is the current medical student research fellow at Hackensack University Medical Center's Department of Urology. She will soon return to her fourth year (senior year) of medical school at Drexel University, based in Philadelphia, and will apply for a urology residency this upcoming year. She got her first introduction to urology through a co-op program offered by her college, Drexel University, which allowed students to gain real-world internships as part of the school curriculum at the Department of Urology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. From there, she realized how much she enjoyed the content and community of urology and never looked back! Outside of school, Sonam enjoys baking, dancing, visiting local planetariums and museums, and, most recently, modeling clay!
