WIB-National: Empowering Latinas in Life Sciences – Celebrating Growth, Overcoming Challenges, and Building Allies
Join WIB in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with inspiring Latinas in life sciences. Guided by moderator Andrea Gibbs, a multicultural and multilingual lawyer turned software executive, our panelists will share their journeys of career growth and development, discuss the unique challenges faced by Latinas in STEM fields, and explore how we can all become allies in empowering Latinas within the life sciences industry.
Through real-life examples, we'll highlight ways individuals and companies can support Latinas in the workforce and emphasize the importance of including Latinas in decision-making roles. Discover how championing Latinas strengthens our industry for everyone.

Speaker Bios
Mallory Alonso, PharmD, RPh, MBA, Medical Science Liaison at UCB
Mallory has about a decade of experience in the life sciences industry. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Florida in 2017 and completed her Master of Business Administration with an emphasis on Leaders in Healthcare from the University of Kentucky in 2022. Mallory began her career as a pharmacist working for CVS before transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry and becoming a Manager of Medical Affairs at US WorldMeds, ultimately moving to a Senior Manager of Medical Affairs position. She is also a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (ICGB). Mallory is currently the Medical Science Liaison II serving the Florida and Puerto Rico area on the US Epilepsy and Rare Syndromes team at UCB, a global biopharmaceutical leader.
Andrea Gibbs, Founder of Gibbs LLC, Moderator
Andrea is an experienced multicultural, multilingual lawyer turned software executive and general manager with a track record of in-house legal roles and innovation in software and SaaS product development. She has two decades of experience in diversity and inclusion leadership. She is motivated by innovation, solving complex problems, exceeding business goals, and building high-performing teams. Andrea is an expert in technology innovation and commercialization, spanning semiconductor, software, foundry, and AI. She recently formed Gibbs LLC, specializing in Government Risk and Compliance (GRC) consulting and technology solutions.
Rocio A. Lopez, PhD, TA/DAS Delivery Leader at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine
With over 20 years of life science experience, Rocio is a passionate and innovative leader committed to advancing innovative therapies and health equity in clinical trials. As Global Operations Head and interim Head of DE&I in Clinical Trials at Janssen, she oversees the global strategy and execution of initiatives that increase the representation and engagement of diverse populations in clinical research and the inclusion and empowerment of diverse talent in the clinical development organization. Rocio has a proven track record of delivering high-quality results and value to clients across all phases of drug development, from preclinical to post-marketing. She has a broad knowledge base of pharmacology, toxicology, and clinical development and a comprehensive understanding of global regulatory requirements and guidance. She is an active listener who fosters collaboration, trust, and openness among cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Rocio is a leader who continuously learns and grows, as evidenced by her multiple certifications in inclusive leadership, safe spaces, and humble leadership. She is fluent in English and Spanish and serves as a board member of El Futuro, a non-profit organization that provides mental health services to the Latinx community.
Luzdary Ruelas, Senior Engineer at Bristol Myers Squibb
Luzdary earned a degree in chemical-biological engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As an undergrad, she conducted research at MIT and Caltech and was involved with MIT Medlinks and the Latino Cultural Center. In the summer of 2017, she conducted research at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where she helped develop a 3D model of the nigrostriatal pathway. She now works as a Manager and senior engineer for Bristol Myers Squibb in Seattle, Washington.
