On February 28, 2024, WIB-Greater Boston gathered virtually for an event aimed to engage and inform attendees about the landscape of AI and its potential applications in various sectors, particularly research and healthcare. In the beginning, Daphne Koller shared that Artificial Intelligence is like exponential growth; it started out slow and has now curved and is growing rapidly. Speakers shared information on the implementation and usage of AI, and by the end got detailed into how it is used specifically in both research and healthcare.
With 48 people in attendance, the event was insightful and engaging. A key takeaway was that AI is here in a positive way and ready to help improve our healthcare diagnoses and research, and Manolis Kellis shared that it is important to watch out for bias with AI and that a healthy culture is essential for easy implementation of these practices into our everyday workflows.
